âIm Tired And Im Stuck. How Do I Make A Shift When Ive Almost Given Upâ Help from our Community âIm Tired And Im Stuck. How Do I Make A Shift When Ive Almost Given Up?â * Marie is exhausted. With a career that's emotionally and physically draining, she's had to 'switch off' to survive. When you're run down and tired, and apathy's the only thing keeping your head above water, how do you find the motivation to go after a shift? What's your career history and current job? I'm a senior social worker, working in child protective services. How do you feel about your work? Frankly, I'm past the point of feeling any way about what I do. I'm just trying to stay afloat. My career has been a whirlwind of activity and hard work for the last 12 years. I'm highly experienced, I'm great at what I do, and I'm exhausted. Funding cuts, ever-increasing paperwork, high staff turnover, demanding shift patterns, emotional challenges⦠I'm very, very proud of the work we do in an increasingly challenging environment, and I'm also a complete zombie. I do what needs to be done, and then I get home and collapse. What would you like to be doing instead? I really don't know. Something calm, something with regular working hours and a positive social impact. That's as far as I'll allow myself to imagine. What's the biggest obstacle in your way? I'm stuck in a catch-22. I want to do something different, and I know I need to invest time and energy into making a career change if it's ever going to happen. You'd think that being so desperate to leave would be a great motivator. But I feel utterly drained and tired all the time. My current job takes everything I've got. It's as though I've already resigned myself to a life I don't enjoy. In fact, I almost avoid things that I think might excite me, because it makes me sad that I'm not able to do anything with them. I'm worried I'll find something wonderful, something I love, and then I won't have the time or energy to invest in it, and then being in my current job will feel even worse. I know I should take some classes, go to networking events and explore my skills, but I just don't want to. I don't have the energy, and I can't justify teasing myself with something I can't have. Brand Ryan Says 30% are Takers - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Wow, what a brand platform! First, Republican candidate Romney pronounces 48% of us as not taking responsibility for ourselves, and then his running mate Ryan says 30% of us are âtakersâ not âmakers.â Who is the angry candidate? Who seems foreign to America? The current Republican brand â" or at least the brand thatâs pounding ads in swing states, is targeted to a very narrow slice of their own party. The ads are very anti-social, anti-equality, anti-healthcare, anti-birth control and slashed government services except if a woman gets pregnant and therefore is subject to a vaginal ultrasound. Did you ever think that all that would garner about half of the electorate? Given all that, and the economics of what appears to be the Republican plan, it seems about 120,000 US families who earn more than $8 million annually should be steadfastly Republican. This fraction of 300 million Americans, fits into a bit more than two NFL stadiums. It seems that everyone else stands in real danger of having some very critical tax breaks and services go way on inauguration day. But thereâs a huge lesson for branding in this election. Itâs not just âbeâsâ that matter to a brand. The âwannabesâ create much of the buzz around a luxury brand. And, apparently a lot of people who are being dissed by the luxury oriented Republican ticket, âwannabeâ be in those stadiums. Stripped of most higher education Pell grants, healthcare or family planning â" it would be quite a feat to be that upwardly mobile. Who watched those debates and got some of the details â" the few that were disclosed? Just 50-60 million people, a fraction of the citizens who will be impacted by this election, or perhaps as happened in the Bush-Gore contest, the selection of the executive branch of government. Is it the lack of attention to detail or something else â" maybe something more unflattering like how many Americans really feel about âdiversity?â Really, how do you reconcile reality? Maybe no one is taking these threats to our way of life very seriously. Romney-Ryan are evocative of the old comedian Don Rickles or the less old Andrew Dice Clay. As sarcastic, mean-spirited funny man brands: these men ridiculed, stereotyped, hated; and people laughed. People paid money to be in the audience and get insulted! Itâs like if Jeff Foxworthy were really dissing the rednecks, not just laughing with them â" but laughing at them. In about a month, weâll see whoâs laughing. Writing an Objective Statement in a ResumeWhen I first started writing an objective statement in a resume, I was having a little trouble figuring out how to do it. It seemed like a lot of work to put together and to be honest, it's not like there's really that much going on. It's usually just a paragraph or two on what the employer is looking for in your resume. Here are some tips on writing an objective statement in a resume.The first thing you want to do is write the objective statement in a paragraph, even if it's just a sentence or two. This is going to make it easier to write and will make it easier to think about your essay if you aren't writing it on a lark.The first paragraph should include a heading, which can be short or long depending on what the employer wants. You should also include the full title of the resume. Just remember to keep the article short and to the point. Your goal is to get it across to the reader that this is the section of the resume that is written by you, not by the employer. Don't forget to include your contact information, too.The second paragraph of the writing an objective statement in a resume should focus on what your skills are and why the employer would hire you. Focus on your skills that are relevant to the job. Don't include everything, but don't list anything that doesn't relate to the position. That includes things like hobbies, talents, or activities that you did outside of your job.In the third paragraph you should talk about what you have done for your past employers. There is nothing wrong with citing previous positions and those employers' names and dates. Again, focus on your skills and you career achievements and the qualifications that these skills have earned you.In the fourth paragraph you should highlight all of your accomplishments and the time period they were achieved. Just remember to keep it to a minimum. Also, make sure you include the entire address and telephone number of your employer and give the m a copy of your resume. In your resume header, put the name of your employer.Finally, there are sometimes other things that the employer would like in the form of extra sections. In these cases, you would still include your contact information in the address and telephone number fields. However, you might want to include these in your resume as well.Writing an objective statement in a resume isn't hard at all, but there are a few things that you need to know about. 7 Reasons You Hate Marketing â" And How to Learn to Love It In ramping up my marketing consulting work with women consultants, practitioners, and entrepreneurs these past months, Iâve heard these words over and over: âI hate marketing.â or, more specifically⦠âI hate promoting myself.â Itâs an amazing thing to observe â" that so many women today view marketing as sleazy, embarrassing, scary, or simply overwhelming. Women tell me that marketing and networking are deeply challenging (and scare the pants off of them) for the following reasons (these are exact quotes): âI just feel like that sleazy used car salesman I hate.â âI donât know how to go up to people and share what I do.â âI feel so intrusive to just blurt out that I can help someone.â âIâm too shy to do whatâs necessary.â âI donât understand how to do this â" itâs all so overwhelming.â âI think I have to be like her (an aggressive, in-your-face networker) to be successful, and I just canât.â âI love the work I do â" why do I have to do this other marketing stuff?â If these statements resonate with you, help is out there for you! Iâm here to tell you â" marketing is not what you think. And the sooner you can embrace your âinner marketer,â and learn to love her, the happier and more fulfilled youâll be in your work. What Is Marketing? First, marketing is not the hairy monster youâve imagined. Itâs simply about letting people know you exist â" via any and all of the many neat methods and forms available today â" so that you can be of powerful and joyful service to the world. Itâs about sharing your unique messages in an authentic, compelling way so that the people you love to serve can find you, and identify that youâre the right one to help them. Marketing is about bringing yourself to the market you want to help, and communicating, âIâm really awesome at what I do and offer, and I LOVE my work. May I be of service to you?â How to Embrace Your âInner Marketerâ Letâs break this down to look at whatâs really beneath the challenges you face in marketing. The key marketing obstacles for women fall into the same four categories that I uncovered in my national research with career women. (For more about the 12 hidden crises working women face today, and how to overcome them, see my book Breakdown, Breakthrough.) These categories represent levels at which we interact with ourselves and our world, and can be characterized as either empowered or disempowered, based on each individualâs specific situation, in: Your Relationship with Yourself Your Relationship with the World Your Relationship with Others Your Relationship with Your Higher Self These same relationship categories apply to your marketing endeavors and marketing persona. Hereâs what you need to understand to become a comfortable and easy marketer and networker who likes it: Your Relationship with Yourself Confidence and Worthiness: The key marketing challenges for women are confidence and worthiness. Deep down, many are not quite sure theyâre great at their work, and donât have the self-confidence to come out say âIâm very talented at this work, and would love to be of service to you!â Tip: You need to step up to embrace how great you are in your work. And if you donât feel you offer high-quality products and services, then you need a shift. Identify the new skills, talents and experiences that will bring your work to the next level. Go out and get those skills and experiences. Donât wait. Your Relationship with Others Two key marketing challenges come up here: speaking up with power and authority, and connecting deeply with others in your communications and your interactions. Speaking Up: Many women are challenged in speaking up about and for themselves with power, authority, and command. Tip: If you believe that speaking out about your gifts and talents means youâre bragging, think again. How can people know about your work if you donât tell them about it â" in your speaking, writing, and interactions? Release this misguided belief that talking about your work is pushy or arrogant. Connecting: Getting out there in the world with your products and services means you have to connect to people from the heart, help them find their pain points and show how your work addresses want they want most. People do business with people they know, like and trust, so youve got to give them the opportunity to know you. Tip: If youâre shy and uncomfortable about connecting and interacting with people, get out there and do more of it. If youâre too self-focused and self-limiting, youâll find it hard to make the authentic connections you need to bring your work and business out there in a bigger way. Relationship with the World: The two core challenges here are: Money and Service Embracing Money: Many women are simply disempowered around their finances, and around earning, managing, and investing their money. Often, they canât seem to establish great fees/prices for their work, and or command these fees on a consistent basis. Further, many women dont have the financial planning experience to make their marketing efforts profitable. Tip: Get financial help! First, you must have a very clear sense of what your products and services are worth in the marketplace â" not what you think they SHOULD be worth, but the true and perceived value of the outcomes you give to others. Then you must acquire the confidence and strength to obtain these prices and fees, and negotiate powerfully for them when needed. Secondly, dont overspend on your business (on marketing or other initiatives) before youve learned how to earn. Being of Service: You need to know how you want to serve the world, and how you do it best, above and beyond the competition. If you donât know how youâre different from your competitors, the marketplace wonât know either, and you wonât get the business you want. Tip: Name and claim the niche you serve best and are most joyful at working in. Find ways to become an expert and truly gifted in the areas that light you up the most, and communicate your stand-apart qualities. Relationship with Your Higher Self Finally, the two essential marketing blocks here in terms of accessing your most expansive, highest self in your work are: Finding Role Models and Being Open to Angels (the human kind â" and others, if you wish!) Finding Role Models: If you think that the only way to do marketing is the sleazy, intrusive and shameless kind, youâre just stuck in a misguided story thatâs holding you back. You need a new set of role models that you can see, hear, and follow, who are doing it the way you want to. Tip: Find fabulous visual role models of marketers who are doing it the way you love. Opening to Angels: If you hate marketing, youâre going to struggle in your business and creative ventures. Itâs that simple. So get help to overcome your fears about it. Be open to the angels that come in your life who want to help you move forward. Find people you trust and respect, and ask them for their critique (yes, critique!), advice and support. You donât have to do this alone. Angels are waiting in the wings to help you. * * * * Learning how to get yourself out there and share your authentic messages with the world â" and powering up to deal with this success outcomes that will follow â" is one of the most enlivening and exciting processes you can undertake.
